Antique Cloth Handmade Make Do Doll Painted Face UNIQUE Folky 25"

Description

This Doll has always had me puzzled. Do not know her age, but she has has been around for many years. This Lady is a Puzzle, in Cloth. She is a "MAKE DO" Cloth, Handmade Lady, measuring 25" tall. Made of whatever was handy and available, and crudely executed. The Dolls Primitive look is what makes her appealing. Her Body is covered with an old Salt Bag, with Dec 25 1881, written on it, in ink. Her Body and Legs feel to be straw stuffed. The Head was made of an old white stocking, and Handpainted. The Nose was sewn and Sculpted, so that it is 3 dimensional. Head is Soft Stuffed. The Head has holes and wear. Strangly, her little arms and hands are  Composition, and belonged, at one time, to a Bisque or Composition Doll. These are worn and chipped. See photos. As I stated, She is definitely Make Do, and made from whatever was handy. Quite Unique and primitivly made. She is wearing a cotton Skirt and Blouse, trimmed with Lace. Matching Underskirt, underneath. Has on a white gauze Pettycoat. Has white cotton Pantaloons. Black Hose on legs. No Shoes. She is wearing a cotton printed Kerchief style Cap. All clothing is  handmade. She is Striking, in her uniqueness, and a wonderful example of a Primitive, Folky, Make Do, Homemade Rag Doll.
