ANTIQUE FOLK ART CLOTH DOLL, 21 INCHES TALL, GREAT CHARACTER!

Description

Good sized cloth folk art doll at 21 inches tall. My estimation of when she was made is a range from about 1918 to the late 1920’s but this is a guess based on her clothing, materials used and style. She is not jointed. She wears a black and white checked skirt, bloomers with what looks like a crocheted trim, a gauzy lace trimmed top over a white top that is stitched in place. The skirt has a hook type of closure. The bloomers are pinned closed. The material on the legs is a stockinet material. I believe that she is stuffed with a cotton stuffing from what I can see in the holes in the fabric on her head.
Unfortunately she does have damage to the fabric on her head in several spots as can be seen in the photos. She has overall soiling. But she has great character and I bet she has had an interesting life! It is a shame that the background stories on so many cool antiques like this one are lost. Although sometimes I notice that people make up new stories for them to make them more interesting! Anyway, she is interesting enough as she is. And isn’t it true that great character often comes along with perhaps more than its fair share of flaws?!
