Antique Hand Sewn Primitive 19th C Rag Cloth Doll Feedsack Body & Real Hair AAFA

Description

Incredible pre-Civil War era handmade cotton feedsack/flour sack cloth rag doll with long chestnut brown real human hair (still in it's original curls), hand knit stockings, lace-trimmed undergarments (pants and underslip), pleated pinafore with lace collar and cuffed 3/4 sleeves, and a fabulous, crudely hand-stitched face with TONS of character. Look at that face! How could she NOT become the prize of any doll collection?!
She has blue glass buttons for eyes, and the rest of her features are stitched in red and black silk embroidery floss. She measures 19.5 inches tall, and has several lengths of string or cord around her neck to keep the filling in her head separate from that of her body; i can't tell exactly what they are stuffed with, but they seem to be two different things - possibly sawdust for her body and wheat chaff or something along those lines for her head? Perhap it's all the same material, but they feel somewhat different. I believe she's is a combination of hand stitching and treadle machine stitching.
You can still see the faded black wording on the feed or flour sack from which she was made; the only word(s) I can make out are "St. Louis", which is not surprising, given that she comes from a St. Louis estate and has likely spent her entire life here. There are some old repairs here and there, a few spots and seam rips on her clothing, very much age appropriate and nothing which detracts - her wig is sewn on with a whip stitch around her crown, which leaves her looking somewhat bald in patches even though she isn't!
