    Description

Cloth Lithographed Brownie by Palmer Cox Copyrighted 1892
Approx. 7" tall. Palmer Cox (Apr. 28, 1840- July 24, 1924) was a Canadian illustrator and author, best known for "The Brownies" , his series of humorous verse books and comic trips about the mischievous but kindhearted fairy-like spirits. Due to the popularity of the series, one of the first handheld cameras was named after them, Eastman Kodak Brownie Camera. Cox was a beloved household name for children in the 1800's through early 1900's. "The Brownies" were the first cartoon figures to be used in mass merchandising, later influencing Beatrix Potter and Walt Disney, among others. Does not include stand.
